Intro

Hello and welcome to your new motocross section in the Western Centre Gazette. This page is aiming to keep you informed with information on our Western Centre motocross rider's progress throughout the 2007 season, gossip, events, injuries and general news.

Our Riders (not all!)

Top Western Centre rider Lewis (Lou Lou) Gregory who rides for the Relentless Suzuki Team will be racing in the MX2 class of the British Championships, The British Masters, and the European Championships and selected Grand Prix.

Stonehouse rider Neil Turner will be competing in the Southwest Centre Remedies Bar Championships and the British Four Strokes, riding his Race Spec supported 450 Suzuki, and persevering to regain his fitness and getting back into the British Championships after a Knee operation and a spell in hospital after a racing injury.

Dursley rider Kurt Brain will also be contesting the Southwest Championship plus any other events that he can get in prior to his knee operation.

Royston Hooper (the born again veteran motocross rider, you will know who he is when he goes over the jump and his teeth end up in his goggles.) and his son Scott are also riding in the Junior class of the Southwest championship aboard a 450 Honda and 250 Kawasaki 4 stroke, their aim is to arrive at the meeting on time. Joking apart we always need characters like the Hooper's, go for it boys.

Ben Hunt from Bisley riding a 450 Honda contending the British Championships and also the DEP 2 stroke challenge on a 250 Honda.

John Holder from Cheltenham is also a Southwest contender riding a 450 Honda.

2nd Update on the local Western Centre 2007 Campaigners

Well firstly I must apologise for my lack of input in the way of results but I hope that you will find the following race report of interest and the pit epics are up to their usual standard.

Matchams Park Round 1 of the British Fours Strokes 1 April

The Western Centre lads competing were Neil Turner and Ben Hunt, both qualified with mid level positions and Ben Hunt continued through the day with 2 good rides managing to pick up points in both races. With the unlucky Neil Turner having a good gating position (18th) and then losing a few places but still in the running only to have a rock force him to part company with his bike in the whoop section, putting paid to any chance of a good result.

On a lighter note the stock car racing that took place during the evening was very entertaining with rumours that Grahame (Greeby) Hunt was seen at the finish line bidding for the winning car as it had less dents than his own.

And yes I was stitched up. Feeling pleased to be back on the motocross scene and away from the decorating and gardening I was happily walking around the pits with my dumpy bottle of Stella, only to see everyone smiling at me, thinking that they were pleased I was back after an 18 month break I went back to the van full of smiles to find her in doors and my beloved son is stitches, the Velcro on the back of my trousers had the wife's unmentionables stuck to them and I had been walking around completely unaware, the plus is at least they were clean.

Whiteway Barton, Torquay- Four Strokes

Riders competing were Neil Turner, Ben Hunt, and on one of the hottest days on record for April the West of England Club serviced the riders well ensuring that the track was well watered keeping dust to a minimum. Both Neil and Ben qualified well, setting good lap times with only a 2 second difference between 10th and 30th places, just proving how competitive the class is.

Race 1 Neil and Ben were bar to bar for most of the race for 15 and 16 position staying strong into the last 4 bends only to lose out on a point scoring position.

Race 2 and both boys gated in the top 10 only for Neil to collide in the 1st corner with Mark Hucklebridge and damage his front brake, resulting in a DNF, while Ben rode hard to secure a 16th place and more points. Top MX2 rider Lewis Gregory was competing in round 2 of the European championships in Italy. With a DNF in race 1 and gaining a 8th place in race 2 to maintain his 5th place in the championship.

The next report will consist of Landrake - Cornwall, Remedies bar, and British Four Strokes form Blaxhall Pits in Ipswich. With the riders that are competing in either or both being Neil Turner, Kurt Brain, Roy and Scott Hooper, Matt Lowe. While Lewis contends round 3 of the European championships.

If there are any BYMX riders that would like to be included please contact me with your results and I will be only to happy to include you.

Till the next time Roy (rocket) Turner
