CHG Hazleton Robin's Quarry Easy Trial 4 Jan 2009
Report by Steve Venn
CHELTENHAM HOME GUARD MCC Held a New Year club Non Expert trial at Robin's Quarry Hazleton on Sunday. 3 Laps of 13 sections kept the 70 riders entertained with a day of steady trials riding in the wintry freezing conditions. 100% concentration was needed to avoid dropping marks, as the sections were as intended one the easy side, but some proved a little trickier than anticipated as the rocks had a light covering of early morning frost.
The course became easier with the passing of wheels, packing down the loose rocks with a clear line soon developing for competitors to follow through the sections.
Seasoned campaigners tackled the standard route, with good consistent rides being recorded by many. Best ride was 5 marks lost by Tim Wheeler on his Yamaha twin shock showing that the latest kit is not needed.
The easier alternative route returned some creditable performances of note with winner Billy Andrews having the only clean ride of the day. Billy received a big welcome back, as this was his first ride since he was taken ill at our club trial in the summer. Billy was also riding a brand new Beta and despite it running a little lean, showed that he has lost none of his ability.
Hard working club member Dave Eeles, who is over joyed as his entry for the Scottish Pre65 has been accepted, won the 50/50 route. Thanks to the observers for standing out in the cold.
