Inter Centre Team Trial 09
Western Centre riders Henry Bendall, John Luff, Barry Husband, Ben Bowkett, and Matthew Welch represented the Centre at the Inter Centre Team Trial. Judging by Andrew Luff's pictures, we can tell that it rained. A lot. And that James Welch got very wet and muddy, acting as a "catcher", while Alf Bendall wisely togged up in decent wet weather gear!
The Centre team finished 15th out of 19 teams and as you'll see from the partial set of Results, they were in good company. Well done to all the lads and team officials for representing the centre so sportingly.

Alf and Henry Bendall and myself travelled down to a damp and drizzly St Ives early on the Saturday morning and set up camp in a small field set out for us by the organising club.
The road into the field complex had just been bull dosed so was fairly sticky as illustrated later when the Bowketts motor home appeared later that day towed behind a JCB.
We set off to inspect the sections being ridden by the youth teams, mainly large rocks set in bracken. The time was very tight for the severity of the sections resulting in time penalties for all but three Youth teams, with three teams out of time and disqualified.
The team consisted of Pete Hughes (Manager), Alf Bendall (Observer), Matthew Welch, Ben Bowkett, Barry Husband, John Luff and Henry Bendall, with James Welch running around with drinks and tools.
Alf and I actually split the observing as eight hours on the section was excessive. The day was wet and the going proved tough on time with some sections taking over four minutes to ride with three or four difficult obstacles to get stuck on.
The second lap was a rush but the boys just made it in on time, Barry taking a few fives with his clutch playing up.With Simon Welch on honeymoon it was Ben Bowkett who led the team home to a very respectable fifteenth Place. All the lads rode well in difficult terrain and rode as a team together.
