z1_3jun07_cbessell_smallZona One M.C.C. held their second event last weekend at Bidfield, near Stroud. An entry of 52 riders lined up to contest the Dennis Saunders Trophy Trial, which consisted of two routes, based on four laps of ten sections.

Luckily the rain stayed away, and the trial enjoyed dry conditions, although the heavy morning dew made the grass banks of section two very slippy to begin with. Most of the subs were set out along the numerous wooded embankments, where the cambers and climbs in and around the trees formed most of the hazards.

z1_3jun07_daveeeles_smallBeta mounted Nigel Tomkins took the Premier trophy with a superb clean ride, which was matched by best youth rider Leo Rochfort. Second best performance on this route came from Tim Wheeler, who only put one foot wrong on the greasy slopes of section two on his first lap. Ben Newby, rode well to clean section two on all four visits, but squandered his final loss of two marks on the tight turns of section eight. Despite his disappointment, this was enough to give the Beta rider the best intermediate award. Section eight also proved to be the undoing of best novice T.Webb, who lost all of his marks here, including an unwanted five on his second visit. Other notable rides came from second best novice Shaun Venn on his Montesa with a loss of seven marks, whilst all rounder Dave Eeles swapped his trail bike for his Beta Rev 3 to finish on thirteen marks lost.

z1_3jun07_ryanpekala_smallThe easy route was also won with a clean ride by best adult Wilf Couldwell, who showed good concentration to hold things together on his four stroke 200 Scorpa. Best youth award went to Sherco mounted F.Adams, on a total of one mark lost.
