Zona One - About Andy Bubb

We introduced a new event for 2007 The Andy Bubb Trophy Trial. For those of you who didn't have the pleasure of meeting Andy, Tony Davis wrote us this intro.

Andy Bubb was born and spent the most of his short life at Rectory Farm, Maisemore which has hosted many scrambles from the 1940's onwards, therefore, it was no surprise to see Andy riding motor-bikes at a very young age.

I first met Andy in my brother's motorcycle shop in the late 1960's when he was being sponsored by Malcolm on a 125cc Bultaco in Schoolboy scrambles.

Locally he was nearly unbeatable and finished runner-up twice to Dave Thorpe in the British Schoolboy Championship. When he joined the senior ranks he won many races on board a 250cc Bultaco in the Western, Midlands, Southern and Welsh centres but unfortunatly retired early due to work pressures and a long term injury. He will be remembered by many for his unhurried and tidy riding style.

Andy was very active in the Zona 1 M.C.C. loaning the club land, helping to mark out sections and observing on the day.

Andy died last year at the young age of 47 and the motorcycle world will always be grateful to both Ted Bubb(father) and Andy for the use of the land at the farm to run Trials and Scrambles.
