Youth Trials

ACU Western Centre Youth Development Programme 2012 is GO!

Youth trials in the centre is being given a much higher priority and profile with the launch of a Youth Development Squad for 2012. With the primary aim of getting more youngsters involved in trials, the squad will be led by Simon Welch, who is the Centre's Youth Development officer (for those of you who don't know, Simon is a multi-Western Centre champion, and his day job is teaching).

More details on what it involves and what youngsters can get out of it are in the 2012 Programme, and here is the Application Form.

First up, a call to clubs for help with a youth series: "I am looking for clubs that would be willing to run a youth seperate course over the summer months to be part of a youth summer series," says Simon. "I suggest that these could be Saturday or Sunday trials in the Western Centre. Another proposal to the clubs is that if a Saturday trial we could run it befire the main event (say 2 hours) so the dads can still have a ride.

"I will be on hand to advice on sections and support the general event, plus overseeing the series. We are looking at any bike, electric or petrol power and I can support with affiliation applications etc. Please can any interested clubs get in contact ASAP, I am looking for 4 - 5 trials to make the series."

And secondly: "What a chance -youth riders cast your eyes on this - a proper years' programme to develop your skills and help you move your riding on, all for a few hours voluntary work to run a trial and supported by the ACU Western Centre."
